TruePane Windows & Doors didn’t start as a storefront in Palmetto Bay. It started as the window crew inside a general contracting outfit, the crew that got called in after every other trade had packed up and gone home. Dale Kessler spent years watching the same thing happen on job after job: the framing was square, the drywall was smooth, the paint was clean, and then the windows went in wrong. Out-of-true installs that bound in July when the heat made everything swell. Seals that fogged over by year three. Warranties that turned out to cover neither the glass nor the labor.
In 2008, the window crew split off to become its own company. Dale kept a level in his truck door and a rule on the whiteboard: if the pane is not true, the job is not done. That rule didn’t change when TruePane opened its Palmetto Bay branch. What changed was the weather we were working in, the homes we were walking into, and the particular way salt air and hurricane season treat a window frame down here. We came to Palmetto Bay because the homes are older, the humidity is honest, and the homeowner who has lived in the same house since the eighties knows exactly what a binding window feels like in August. They’ve been burned once and they remember it.
So we brought the same measuring tape, the same two-layer warranty paperwork, and the same rule from the whiteboard. We measure every opening twice. Dale Kessler’s Personal Connection to the Windows & Doors Trade
Dale Kessler is a second-generation glazier. His father worked glass before him, and Dale grew up around the trade the way other kids grew up around baseball. He remembers the smell of glazing compound on a hot afternoon, that sharp linseed-oil scent that hung in the truck cab and got into everything. He remembers the sound of a glass cutter scoring a pane, the little crunch of it, the clean snap when the break went right. Those sounds never left him.
What he learned early, and what he still believes, is that windows are the most honest part of a house. A window doesn’t hide. If the opening is out of square, the sash binds. If the seal fails, you see the fog. If the flashing is wrong, the water finds its way in and tells everyone. There’s no arguing with a window that won’t close. The work either holds up or it doesn’t, and the truth shows up eventually. That’s what he loves about it. In a world full of estimates and promises, a true pane is a settled fact.
Dale has spent more than a decade in this trade, and the part that still gets him out of bed is the moment after the final clean-up, when the old window is loaded on the truck and the new one is in, and the homeowner runs their hand along the sill and then pushes the sash open and closed a few times, just to feel it. That little gesture, that testing push, is the whole job to him. It’s the customer checking for the same thing he checks: is it true, does it move right, will it still be right in ten years.
